MENTORING
We rely mainly on mentoring relationships to believe in youth. Whether it be one on one, in a group or at an event, we value the power of a servant led relationship to make a difference in our youth!
BE Real Mentoring is designed to focus on the year around needs of homeless and disadvantaged youth. We want to be the consistency needed in the instability of life.
Be REAL stands for RESTORE ENCOURAGE ACCEPT and LOVE. The mission of Be REAL Mentoring Program is to enhance the lives of our community’s youth by providing adult mentors to engage them in meaningful educational, recreational, and developmental activities.
Be REAL helps youth succeed in education and in life by encouraging them to make good decisions and set positive goals. Our mentors help students:
ð Improve their academic success and their attitudes toward school and education
ð Avoid negative behaviors like using drugs or alcohol, delinquency, or gang involvement
ð Get along better with family and friends
ð Feel better about themselves
Eligible Youth Participants:
Be REAL Mentoring Program matches adult volunteer mentors with youth and families that interested in participating voluntarily. The program is provided free of cost to any student whose parent is receiving services and or living in a homeless shelter, motel or transitional living program. All youth must be referred by approved agency or program offering homeless services to families.
Mentor Requirements:
- Be a minimum of 18 yrs of age
- Attend 6 hour Training
- Consent to background check
- Have reliable transportation and valid insurance
- Enjoy working with Youth ages 13-18 yrs old
- Demonstrate Commitment of at least one year
- Meet with mentee one on one a minimum of 1-2 hrs per week
