ABOUT US
Project Believe is an organization designed to believe in the potential of homeless youth. We are committed to impacting each life through character building relationships and resources through mentoring. We offer programs and activities geared to prevent and intervene youth displaying at risk behavior, promote self advocacy and whole heartedly believe in the future of this generation.
Our values believe in the power of faith and servant hood as the means to reach the needy and disadvantaged. Project Believe is grounded on the foundation of strong morals, character, love for humanity and for our communities.
Our History
In May of 2008, a group of young people gathered and decided they were going to make a permanent difference in the lives of the youth served at our annual event Camp Joy. We witnessed the deep wounds and voids left in the lives of youth affected by the homeless epidemic in Orange and Los Angeles counties. The dream for Project Believe was born with the desire to pair homeless youth with positive role models and offer opportunities to restore the belief in their future.
For the last 4 years, we have collaborated with 10 local emergency and transitional homeless shelters and provided one on one mentors, tangible resources and lasting memories to approximately 400 youth.
Our dream is that one day this project will have impacted hundreds of successful young people who were once hopeless, now full of life, giving back and living their dreams.
Our Challenge
The homeless youth population is often left to find recreation and companionship on the streets. Even while staying in shelters or placements, youth are often neglected by adults who are trying to survive the best they can. We have seen the voids left by broken families, premature responsibility, and heavy burdens due to their homelessness. Many simply ask for someone to listen and share their life with while their families struggle towards self sufficiency. Thus, lack of healthy relationships often lead to at risk behavior including gang violence, drugs, and school drop out rates. Researchers found that after 18 months of spending positive time with mentors, they are 46% less likely to begin using drugs, 27% less likely to begin using alcohol, and 52% less likely to skip school.
Get involved. Give. Make a Difference.
Believe!
